What We're Looking For
Baylor University's Financial Services is seeking a Senior Revenue Accountant to join the team. As a successful candidate you will demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Utilization of accounting skills to ensure timely and accurate preparation of entries related to the University's operations.
- Ability to record, examine, and analyze financial transactions; computes financial data; analyzes and prepares reports; monitors accounts; forecasts revenues/expenditures; proposes new procedures; reviews financial transactions for accuracy and conformance with established standards and procedures; and, serves as an accounting resource.
A Bachelor's Degree, five years of relevant work experience, and an active Christian faith are required. A Master's degree and six years of relevant work experience are preferred. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Hybrid or remote work will be considered for this position.
What You Will Do
- Maintain updated knowledge of GAAP, University policies, procedures, financial requirements and Office of Management & Budget (OMB) Uniform Guidance and federal and state cash management accounting, compliance, reporting principles and requirements.
- Coordinate with the Financial Services, Student Accounts, Financial Aid and Registrar department staff to ensure accurate recording of student-related revenue and contra-revenue (primarily, tuition, fees and scholarships) and related asset and clearing accounts within the University financial system. Interface successfully with these departments in an advisory capacity providing guidance and assistance in resolving accounting and financial questions or problems.
- Process, record, recalculate and analyze accounting interfaces from student information systems. Review (for accuracy and errors), and approve journal entries prepared by other Financial Services and Student Accounts staff. Coordinate and resolve budget issues.
- Review contracts to ensure appropriate accounting, prepare financial analyses and reconciliations, and coordinate entries for University Student Accounts operating activities.
- Analyze, prepare and record routine and non-routine daily, month-end and year-end journal entries ensuring timely and accurate reporting of assigned accounts and Student Accounts activities.
- Review/reconcile assigned accounts for proper accounting. Assist in review of new programs/scholarships/reporting set-up. Review the recording of financial aid on student accounts for compliance with federal & state reporting requirements.
- Analyze and reconcile accounts exercising judgment and coordinating corrections. Research discrepancies and review transactions for timeliness, accuracy and conformance with GAAP and established procedures. Forecast revenues/scholarships when requested.
- Periodically review processes related to student revenue/contra-revenue receipt and recording for appropriateness, efficiency, and internal control weaknesses. Make recommendations for improvement, where necessary.
- Assist with annual external audit and periodic internal or agency audits. Prepare schedules and reports supporting account balances and activities. Assist with system testing for periodic updates.
- Assist with establishment, change or deletion of detail codes within the University Student Accounts system, exercising judgment and ensuring appropriate coding for proper financial reporting.
- Attend meetings, seminars, staff developments and training sessions. Serve on University committees, assist with special projects of Financial Services, and perform other duties as assigned.
